A man who won €100,000 on a National Lottery scratch card plans to tell his family about the win with a very special Christmas Day surprise.

The lucky winner, a 28-year-old from Romania who lives in the midlands, lost his job two months ago and he now plans to share his good fortune with his family members in Ireland.

Collecting his prize today he told National Lottery staff that he won't reveal his win to his family until Christmas Day, when he will present each of them with a cheque for €10,000 each.

He said he plans to put the cheques into big gift boxes, and place them under the Christmas tree.

“I cannot wait to see their faces when they open the boxes on Christmas morning and see what is inside. I am going to say nothing about this win until then.”

With the remainder of the cash, the man plans to make a trip to Romania to visit his relatives after Christmas and he also hopes to use some of the money to do some work on the home he has there.

The man bought the Christmas Countdown scratch card in the Mace Store in Monard, Co Tipperary and he revealed his big hope for 2018 is to find a new job.
