UK pension-holders warned of looming fuel benefit deadline
Senior citizens who receive a British state pension have until the end of the week to claim a winter fuel allowance worth up to €350 a year from the UK government.
The entitlement results from a landmark European Court of Justice ruling that pensioners who lived or worked in the UK, but now live in other EU countries such as Ireland, are entitled to an annual fuel payment.
Some of those eligible are UK ex-pats who have moved here, but a large number are Irish natives who lived or worked in the UK.
The deadline for applications is this Sunday, March 31. Tax-free, the minimum payment is €115 per annum, and the maximum is €350.
