Two workers rushed to hospital after gas mains explodes in Dublin
Two men have been injured in a gas mains explosion in Knocklyon in South Dublin.
The men were working on the mains when it ruptured and exploded at around 4:30pm yesterday.
Firefighters remained for a number of hours at the scene and the area remains sealed off, as the gas has not yet been switched off.
Traffic diversions are in effect in the area and there was disruption to gas supply in the locality yesterday evening.
One local said her house 'shook' with the force of the explosion.
Both were taken to hospital with flash burns but are not thought to be seriously injured.
The incident happened on the Knocklyon Road beside a petrol filling station, initially leading to fears the fuel could ignite.
Gardai closed the road and units from Dublin Fire Brigade are hosed fire until the gas mains could be shut off.
