TWO teenagers are recovering in hospital after an attack in Cork.

The teenage friends, both aged 15 years, were targeted in an unprovoked attack in the Wilton area of Cork's southside shortly before 7pm on Saturday evening.

One suffered stab or slash injuries and the other was beaten about the face and head.

The attackers then fled the scene on foot.

Both teens were taken to Cork University Hospital (CUH) for treatment.

Their injuries are not understood to be life threatening.

However, Gardaí expressed concern over the level of violence used in the incident and the fact it was totally unprovoked.

Officers have appealed for anyone who may have spotted suspicious activity in the Wilton/Bishopstown area on Saturday night to contact them.

Gardaí are also checking CCTV security camera footage to determine the movements of any gangs of youngsters in the area at the time.
