Two men were being questioned by gardaí last night following a significant haul of drugs in Limerick worth an estimated €140,000.

The men, aged in their 20s and 30s respectively, were detained at Henry Street and Roxboro Road garda stations under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drugs Trafficking Act). They were arrested as part of an ongoing operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs in the Castleconnell area of Limerick city.

Members of the Divisional Drugs Unit in Castleconnell and gardaí from Limerick swooped on a premises yesterday. During a search they seized approximately €120,000 worth of cocaine and €20,000 worth of herbal cannabis and a quantity of MDMA or ecstasy tablets, pending analysis.

They also seized a number of shotgun cartridges.

The arrests follow eight unrelated raids in St Mary's Park in the city by the Limerick Divisional Drugs Unit earlier this month in which they, in collaboration with the Criminal Assets Bureau, seized heroin, cocaine, cannabis and tablets as well as what gardaí described as a "significant sum of cash and high-value jewellery".
