TWO people have been arrested after NINE cars were set on fire during an arson attack in Letterkenny.

The men were detained in the Co Donegal town this afternoon.

Garda forensic experts have spent the day examining the scene of the fires in an underground car park on Rosemount Lane, off Main Street.

A number of apartments had to be evacuated around 2am today as fire crews tackled the blaze.

One man was treated at Letterkenny University Hospital for smoke inhalation.

A bakery and a clothes shop suffered smoke damage as a result of the incident.

Gda Insp Goretti Sheridan said two men were arrested in Letterkenny this afternoon and are being questioned at the town's garda station.

Leonard Watson lost the entire stock of his menswear shop.

"I'm gutted. The whole place was smoke damaged including all the Christmas stock. We'll just have to assess things and try to re-open again as soon as possible," he said.
