Two motorists could hold key to solving mystery of father-of-two who vanished without trace just days before Christmas - gardai
Gardaí believe two motorists may hold the key to solving the mystery over a father of two who vanished without trace just days before Christmas.
The revelation came as a renewed appeal was issued for information on Diarmuid Twomey (31) who disappeared after he walked his partner Ciara Byrne to a taxi at 3am on December 20 following a Christmas party in Cork city.
Mr Twomey, who was feeling unwell, opted to take a stroll. He hasn't been seen since. His phone was discovered several hours later in a farmyard at Ballinahina, north of the city.
A massive search by gardai and volunteers over the past eight days has found no trace of Mr Twomey. Gardaí want to trace the taxi driver who brought Ms Byrne home - and a car containing three males which was captured on CCTV security camera footage in the nearby Whitechurch area.
"We would appeal for the taxi driver that picked up Ciara Byrne at Fairhill to come forward," Inspector Gary McPolin said.
"He was described as a man in his 50s and he was driving a silver Skoda car. He brought her out the Whitechurch Road to Carrignavar, so we would be looking for him to come forward. He hasn't come forward since the investigation commenced on December 20."
