Two men are seriously injured after a car hit a tree in a serious road crash in Leitrim.

The accident happened on Saturday evening on the Ballinamore to Newtowngore Road (R199) in south Leitrim.

It was a single car collision accident, with four males in the car. The men are in their late teens and early 20s.

All four men were taken to Cavan General Hospital, where two of the men's injuries are thought to be serious.

Local reports stated that three of the men are from the Ballinamore area, while the remaining man was living in the UK but visiting for the weekend.

The road was closed after the incident, but reopened on Sunday afternoon.
