The incident happened just before 1pm on the eastbound section of the road.

The crash happened close to the exit for Lucan.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

He had been travelling alone.

Witnesses were advised to contact gardaí.

Earlier, a motorcyclist lost his life in a collision in Co Kildare.

The motorcyclist lost control of his motorbike and crashed on the Nicholastown Kilcullen Road between Kilcullen village and Mile Mill.

The crash happened at 1am yesterday.

The motorcyclist, a man in his early 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed to enable Garda forensic collision investigators to carry out an investigation at the crash site.

Local diversions were put in place.

The two deaths yesterday followed a fatal crash in Saturday at Feragh, Co Monaghan, when a woman in her 60s died in a two-car collision.
