Two men escape serious injury after air crash in Offaly

TWO men have this evening escaped with minor injuries after their light aircraft crashed near an airfield in the midlands.

Air accident investigators have been dispatched to the airfield in Birr, Co Offaly, after the two-person Samba XL plane crashed at around 4.40pm.

There were two passengers on the aircraft, which earlier today set off from Abbeyshrule, Co Longford.

The pilot, who is in his 60s, and his passenger, were lucky to escape the incident with minor injuries. They were taken to Tullamore General Hospital.

Gardai from Birr are currently at the scene.
