Two men have been arrested and charged for aggravated burglary after they were found downstairs in a home by the occupant of the house before fleeing from gardaí.

At around 1.30pm yesterday, they were found downstairs in the house in the Beech Park area of Portmarnock, Co Dublin.

One of the men was yielding a hammer.

The men, both in their 20s, drove from the scene before abandoning the vehicle and continuing to flee on foot.

Local gardaí later arrested the two men after a pursuit and they were charged in relation to the incident.

The men are held at Coolock Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and are due to appear before Swords District Court this morning.
