TWO men have been charged over the assault of a 27-year-old Cork man in Perth in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The victim, named only as Michael, suffered severe bruising and cuts to his face during the incident which occurred as he smoked a cigarette outside a friend’s home about 3am.



Police in Perth have now charged two men in relation to the incident – one a 37 year old and the other a 24 year old.



A woman with the two men at the time of the assault has been released without charge. The 37-year-old man was due to appear in court today.



During the assault he was knocked to the ground before begin punched and kicked repeatedly. The assailants then stole AU$20, a cheap phone and a lighter.



Michael, who did not want to reveal his surname, said: “These people are a danger to other people on the streets. I think it was mindless really...personally I think they were just out for trouble.”



The welder had been living in Australia for 18 months at the time of the assault.
