Two men have been arrested after €250,000 worth of cannabis plants were discovered in two houses in the Kanturk and Newmarket areas of Cork.

The discovery was made this morning during planned searches by the Kanturk District Drug Unit who were backed up armed gardai from the Regional Support Unit.

A man in his late 70s and a man in his mid-50s were arrested at the scenes and are currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Kanturk Garda Station.

The search was made as part of Operation Nitrogen which combats the cultivation of cannabis in Ireland.
