Two inmates of the Oberstown youth detention campus manged to climb onto its roof tonight.

The boys gained access to the roof at around 5.30pm, before being convinced to come down around 30 minutes later.

There were no injuries or damage to any property as a result of the incident and a spokesperson for the Lusk-based campus in Dublin said the inmates were back in their rooms.

The spokesperson could not give specific details of how the most recent incident occurred.

A garda spokesperson confirmed that they were not called to the scene and the assistance of officers was not required.

In August this year a five units of the fire brigade had to be called to the facility after youths forced their way onto the roof and a fire broke out.

By comparison, the incident this evening was dealt with swiftly.
