Two held over €1.8m cannabis seizure

Cannabis worth almost €2m was seized and two men were arrested after the Garda drugs squad disrupted a trafficking and dealing operation, it was revealed today.

The raids began when a van was stopped and searched on Arran Quay in Dublin city centre on Tuesday.

The driver, a 60-year-old man, was detained at the scene after 200kg of cannabis resin with a street value of about €1.4m was found in the vehicle.

Late last night, in a follow-up operation, a suspected drug distribution warehouse was raided in an industrial estate near Rathcoole, on the western outskirts of the city.

A second man, aged 40, was arrested at the scene and another quantity of cannabis, believed to be worth about €400,000, was recovered.
