Two Gardai injured in domestic disturbance response
TWO Gardai were hospitalised after being attacked when they responded to a domestic disturbance alert.
The officers were on routine patrol when they attended a residential property in the Blarney Street area of Cork city centre shortly after 7pm tonight.
A report had been received about a suspected domestic disturbance.
Gardai attempted to calm a middle-aged male who was extremely agitated but suddenly found themselves being attacked.
The two officers suffered multiple but non-life threatening injuries before the man was successfully restrained.
Garda reinforcements raced to the scene to support the two officers.
The man was arrested and taken for questioning.
The two officers were transferred to Cork University Hospital (CUH) for treatment.
One sustained hand and arm injuries while the other was being treated for face, head and neck injuries.
None of the injuries involved are life threatening.
The man detained is expected to appear before Cork District Court tomorrow.
