Two gardaí treated for injuries after man became 'aggressive' during search

Two gardaí were treated for minor injuries after they suffered an assault while on duty this afternoon.

The gardaí from the Community Policing unit, attached to the Store St Garda Station, stopped a 25-year-old man for a search.

Gardaí confirmed that the man became "aggressive" during the search and assaulted the two members of An Garda Síochána.

Both members were taken to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.

They have since been released.

The man was arrested and detained at Store St Garda Station under the provisions of Section 2 – Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

A quantity of tablets was seized during the search and are currently the subject of analysis.

Investigations are continuing into the incident
