Two female pedestrians are killed in horror road crash

Two female pedestrians were fatally injured in Co Galway yesterday evening following a collision involving two vehicles.

Gardaí in Ballinasloe are investigating the tragic incident that occurred at Station Road at approximately 5.40pm.

The two women, both in their 50s, died when they were hit by a car that had collided with a second vehicle. They were pronounced dead at the scene and their bodies have been removed to Portiuncula Hospital.The Station Road (R358) was closed from the junction to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Diversions were also put in place via the Killure Road.

Local councillor Dermot Connolly said the village was thinking of anyone who had been affected by the tragic incident.

The councillor was attending a charity quiz when news of the crash broke and said those present held a silent prayer out of respect.

"We are not aware of who is involved yet, but we are thinking of anyone affected," he said.
