Two detained in Portugal over €187k cannabis seizure in Cork
A MAN and woman were detained in Portugal on foot of an Irish arrest warrant over a €187,000 cannabis seizure in Cork.
The man, in his 30s, and woman, in her 20s, were detained in Lisbon yesterday on foot of a European Arrest Warrant (EAW).
The EAW was executed in Portugal in conjunction with members of the West Cork Divisional Drugs Unit.
The couple have since been brought back to Ireland.
They have been taken to Bantry Garda Station and are due to appear before Bantry District Court later today.
The arrests came after Gardaí from the Divisional Drugs Unit in West Cork carried out a search on January 18 2016 at a house in Dunmanway, Co Cork.
Gardaí were acting on specific intelligence.
They discovered a grow house containing €187,000 worth of cannabis herb and cannabis plants.
Four men and a woman were arrested and detained at Bandon and Bantry Garda stations.
All four were later released without charge for the preparation of a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Of the five people detained in 2016, one has already appeared before the courts in Cork.
Two more will appear before Bantry District Court today.
One individual faces no further action by decision of the DPP.
The fifth and final individual faces an outstanding EAW.
