An arson attack at family home in Coleraine, Northern Ireland is being treated as attempted murder.

Two adults and two children were in their Rinvarna Court home when a blaze took hold.

It happened at around 9.45pm on Sunday night.

Two had to be rescued with the help of passers-by.

All four were taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Detective chief inspector Catherine Magee said: "Substantial damage was caused to a door and the front of the property.

"This is a very serious incident and we are extremely lucky we are not investigating the death of a young family."
