Two arrests after passengers stole taxi overnight

TWO men have been arrested after a taxi was stolen by passengers overnight.

Gardaí at Blanchardstown are investigating the incident which occurred at Laurel Lodge Road, Castleknock in Dublin at approximately 2.20am this morning.


A taxi picked up two men in the Castleknock area and drove them a short distance to Laurel Lodge Road where they requested him to stop the vehicle.


Both passengers then threatened the taxi driver, ordered him out of his vehicle and drove away in the taxi. 


The stolen taxi was stopped by Gardaí on the Howth Road at approximately 3.20am and two men aged 29 and 20 were arrested. A knife was also recovered.


Both males are currently detained at Blanchardstown Garda Station under Section 4 –Criminal Justice Act 1984, a garda spokesman said.


Investigations are continuing.
