TWO people have been arrested after Gardai found cannabis with an estimated street value of €80,000 in a car they were travelling in.

The cannabis herb was seized following a stop and search of a vehicle in Ballymote yesterday evening.

Gardaí stopped the car on the N4, Castlebaldwin, Ballymote, Co. Sligo.

When the car was searched Gardaí recovered four kilograms of cannabis resin.

The two occupants of the car - a man in his mid 30s and a woman in her mid 20s - were arrested at the scene.

They are currently detained at Ballymote Garda station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 and can be detained for up to seven days.
