Two people have been arrested by detectives investigating the death of a man whose body was found at a waste disposal facility.

Polish national Henryk Piotrowski, 43, was crushed to death in an industrial-sized bin in south Dublin on August 23.

Gardai at Crumlin arrested a man in his 40s and woman in her 30s in Dublin city centre.

A spokesman said the pair, who are also Polish, can be detained for 24 hours at Crumlin Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardai were trying to determine whether the homeless man had been sleeping rough in the bin when it was emptied or if he was the victim of an assault.

Staff working for Panda a t the Ballymount Road facility in Walkinstown made the grim discovery as the contents of the bin truck, which had been compacted and crushed, was being emptied.

Officers are working with Interpol to find the family of the Polish man, who had no family in Ireland.
