Truck driver rushed to hospital in serious condition after being struck by car on M9
A male truck driver has been airlifted to hospital and is in a serious condition following a collision on the M9.
The man, aged in his early 40s, was struck by an oncoming car after he had pulled his vehicle in on the hard shoulder and got out of the cabin to inspect it.
The incident occurred around 7.30pm on the southbound carriageway between junctions four and five on the M9 in Co Carlow.
The road in both directions had to be closed for a time to allow the helicopter to land and take the man to Tallaght Hospital in Dublin.
The northbound lane has reopened, however the southbound is closed for a forensic examination.
The four people in the other car were uninjured in the collision.
Carlow gardaí are investigating.
