IRISH peacekeeping troops are to remain in Lebanon for another year.
On Tuesday, the Cabinet approved Defence Minister Alan Shatter's recommend-ation to deploy the troops there for another two tours of duty.
The 106th infantry battalion, which comprises 332 personnel and is already in south Lebanon, will work alongside Finnish armed forces in a joint battalion from June 1.
Irish and Finnish troops have previously worked together in Lebanon and more recently in Chad.
Mr Shatter said last night that the partnership was an example of the joint contribution that two small countries could make to peace and security.
