It’s not a scene you ever thought you’d witness, but in these photos Waterford Airport has become the central point of defence for these troops.

This photo was taken during the Irish Defence Forces latest training exercise, a five-day bootcamp in Waterford.

Waterford Airport Authority shared the photo today online, writing that there had been ‘great activity’ at the airport last week.

"Great activity going on here last wk as @defenceforces successfully completed a 5 day training exercise #Waterford," the airport authorities tweeted.

The official Irish Defence Forces, who are active Twitter users and participants, also shared the photo online.

The Twitter account is home to hundreds of photos taken of the Irish Defence Forces worldwide on a daily basis.
