Tributes have been paid following the death of "beloved" actor Stephen Swift.

Stephen (44) passed away on Tuesday following a long illness and has been remembered fondly by comedian David O'Doherty, actress Aoibhín Garrihy and leaders in Irish theatre.

He had roles in TV series 'Games of Thrones', 'The Tudors', 'Fair City' and 'The Clinic'. He was also well-known for his theatre work.

The Dubliner is survived by his wife Deirdre, their two young sons, his parents, brothers, sister and extended family.

Comedian David O'Doherty said he lost one of his "best pals". "A friend, collaborator and sidekick. Always with me. Huge love to his family and friends," he said.

A tribute from the Abbey Theatre read: "We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Stephen Swift - phenomenal actor, beloved friend and respected colleague."

His funeral will take place at 11am on Saturday at Christ Church on the Park Road in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin.
