Triathlon puts fun into fundraising

IF you fancy the notion of doing a triathlon, but are put off by the thought of all that fresh air, you might consider entering the sixth annual fun mini-triathlon in Sandycove, Co Dublin, in aid of the Irish Cancer Society, at 11am on Saturday, November 12.

Contestants must dip a toe (gingerly) in the Forty Foot, saunter (slowly, mind you) up to Teddy's famous ice-cream shop in Dun Laoghaire for a 99, and then cycle (or get a crossbar) back along the seafront.

In its five years, the event has already raised €180,000 plus -- and they're hoping to push that over the €200,000 mark this year. To get a sponsorship card, call Christy Dunne on (01) 289-6673 or the Irish Cancer Society. (Or, in keeping with the leisurely pace of the event, just turn up at the Forty Foot before 11am on Saturday, November 12.)
