TWO fishing trawlers that got into difficulty off the southwest coast were making their way towards land yesterday.

Fears had been growing for the safety of the The Endurance and its 10-member crew and The Ellie Adhamh with eight crew.

The trawlers got into difficulty in high seas off the southwest coast, about 120 miles off the coast of Dingle. The fishing vessels had left from Rossaveal in Co Galway.

The Coast Guard helicopter and the lifeboat could not reach them because of the rough conditions at sea.

The Endurance and The Ellie Adhamh were yesterday evening making their way towards Dingle and Castletownbere off the coast of Cork respectively.

A spokesman for the Valentia Coast Guard said yesterday they were not worried about the safety of the crew.
