Tragedy as man dies in house fire overnight
A man has died in a house fire in Cork.
Emergency services attended the scene of the blaze at 4.30am at Dillons Cross on the northside of the city.
Gardai confirmed to Independent.ie that the body of a male was recovered from the scene and was pronounced dead.
The gentleman's remains were brought to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem is due to take place.
The age of the man has not yet been confirmed, but it is believed he was 74 years old.
There were nobody else in the property at the time and no other injuries reported.
The scene has now been reserved for a technical examination.
