Traffic 'extremely congested' in Dublin due to Luas lane restrictions
A new traffic scheme in the Saint Stephen's Green area is causing some traffic delays this morning.
The new scheme, which is part of Luas Cross City works, has two right turning lanes on to Merrion Row from the green and one left turning lane continuing around Saint Stephen's Green.
These lane restrictions is causing traffic congestion from Leeson Street to the East side of the green.
Another major change at the green, is the creation of a new turn from Saint Stephen’s Green South onto the west side. Traffic taking this new turn will cross the existing Green Line Luas track and then run alongside the line up to York Street.
This turn allows motorists access to the Royal College of Surgeons, the Stephen’s Green car parks, or continue on to Mercer Street and take Noel Purcell Walk to access Drury Street and the car parks in that area.
Luas Cross City works began earlier this year and are expected to conclude in late 2017. A total of 13 new Luas stops will be added during that timeframe tand the existing stop at the green will be remodeled.
