City centre drivers experienced traffic delays this afternoon after a Dublin Bus came to a halt when one of its rear wheels came off.

A rear wheel came off a bus on the 15b route at Butt Bridge, on the quays this evening.

Nobody was injured during the incident, Dublin Bus said. Passengers were transferred to another bus before continuing on their journey.

Dublin Bus has begun an investigation into the incident.

In a statement this evening, a spokesperson said: “Dublin Bus can confirm that an incident occurred on Route 15b this afternoon where the rear wheel of the vehicle came adrift at Butt Bridge.”

“The safety and security of customers and employees is paramount. Dublin Bus has a robust maintenance regime in place for the security of wheels including inspection and torquing of wheel nuts.”
