Town pays tribute to garda killed on duty
UP to 100 people gathered at the weekend to pay tribute to a garda who was killed on duty.
Garda Robbie McCallion (29) died on April 7 last year, 10 days after he was knocked down while investigating an alleged attempted car theft in Letterkenny in Co Donegal.
On Saturday, Mayor Jim Lynch unveiled a plaque in his memory in the town park.
The garda's parents, Bob and Nancy McCallion, from Swinford, Co Mayo, laid a laurel wreath at the site. Also present were his brother, John and his sisters Deirdre and Noreen.
Two men have been charged in relation to the incident.
