Purr-fect! Top marks, in fact 11 out of 10 to Saoirse Ronan's style squad, who couldn't have done it better and the Irish actress shone like a youthful, modern fashion icon on her second outing on the Oscars red carpet. Last time around, she was a teenager; on Sunday night she looked like a sassy young woman, full of confidence in her age-appropriate Calvin Klein Collection gown, which faithfully followed the line of her enviable figure to a tee.

The danger with sequinned sheaths is that you could end up looking like a mermaid, but Saoirse looked supremely comfortable as she moved around and showed off the bare back and cross strap detail. In fact she was so comfortable, she remarked how she felt like she was wearing her sweats.

But dress apart, it was her overall styling that I loved. The smokey green eye that made her own eyes just pop, the beautifully highlighted hair, the mismatched Chopard drop earrings, emerald in left ear, diamonds in the right, was a nice quirky touch.

Talk about being pared back, Saoirse didn't wear as much as a necklace, chain, braclet or bangle; quite an achievement when you consider the number of high-end jewellers who would have been chasing to dress every inch of her flesh for the big night. I salute her for standing her ground and keeping to her aesthetic.

Elizabeth Saltzman styled Saoirse all season. The white grecian Saint Laurent dress she wore for the Golden Globes was strong, if a little too old for her, and this was driven home on Sunday when she emerged in her emerald sequins and instantly wowed.

I loved Saoirse's nod to wearing green, which she carried off with such panache and looked supremely chic, like a modern Irish woman living in Brooklyn.
