A toddler is in a serious condition in hospital after she was knocked down in the driveway of a house in Galway.
The 16-month-old girl had been playing at her grandparent's home in the Carramacowan area of Kilbannon, near Tuam in Co Galway when the incident occurred.
The little girl was struck by the car just before 6pm yesterday evening as the vehicle was being reversed out of the driveway.
It is understood that the car was driven by a family member who was left in shock after the incident.
The family had been enjoying the Easter Bank Holiday Monday at the home of the child's grandparents.
The little girl was airlifted to University Hospital Galway by helicopter. However, her injuries were so serious that she was transferred to Temple Street Children's hospital in Dublin last night.
It is understood that she suffered serious head injuries in the accident.
Her devastated parents and wider family accompanied the baby girl to Dublin where they are keeping vigil by her hospital bedside.
Gardai have described the little girl’s condition as serious.
