Time is right for 'Brighter Evenings'
A proposal to move the clocks forward by an hour so Ireland is on the same time as continental Europe is being watched over by the Government.
Justice Minister Alan Shatter will give the Government's response on Friday to the 'Brighter Evenings Bill'.
The bill, if adopted, would see Ireland skip forward an hour permanently and operate off a different timezone to Britain.
The legislation is being tabled by Independent Labour TD Tommy Broughan.
The bill requires the minister to publish a report on the costs and benefits of advancing the clocks by one hour to allow for brighter evenings and to bring Ireland into the central European timezone.
