One of Ireland's oldest hotels has reopened under its original name, the Great Southern Killarney, following extensive refurbishment.

More recently known as The Malton, the family-run company has invested in a major restoration programme over the past two years.

Owned by the Scally family since 2014, the historic landmark is part of the Hayfield Family Collection that includes the Killarney Royal in Killarney and Hayfield Manor in Cork city.

Pictured with an original grandfather clock dating back to 1854 is owner Joe Scally and granddaughters Marieclaire (6) and Annabelle Van Vrede (4), who say they look forward to celebrating the next chapter of the hotel's story.

"Over the past two years we have carefully upgraded the hotel to reflect its heritage, grandeur and position within the town," said Mr Scally.
