Tidal wave of toilers to clean up at the seaside

THOUSANDS of volunteers will take part in Ireland's biggest-ever beach clean-up on the weekend of May 10.

At least 80 events have been registered for Coca Cola Clean Coasts week, which is run by An Taisce and involves armies of volunteers picking up litter from the coastline.

The initiative is running for 10 years, and some 10,000 people have already taken part, cleaning up 3,000 different spots and removing one million pieces of litter.

An Taisce director Pat Oliver said she hoped to stage the biggest-ever clean up this year.

"I'd encourage everyone to log on to our website at cleancoastsweek.ie to find a beach clean you can support," she said.
