Three people were rescued after their yacht got into difficulty off the coast of Wexford this afternoon.

The Marine Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Dublin received a mayday call from the yacht at around 16.30 this evening.

The 37-foot yacht was taking on water near the Saltee Islands, off Kimore Quay. The three people on-board, two men and a woman, had taken to their life-raft and issued the distress calll.

Rescue 117 was tasked to attend from Waterford and the lifeboat from Kilmore Quay also attended the scene.

Within minutes Rescue 117 was on scene and rescued the three casualties, who are believed to be UK nationals.

The trio were unharmed and did not require hospitalisation.

The yacht is sunk and is unrecoverable.
