Three people killed on Irish roads overnight
A hit and run incident and a single car collision claimed the lives of three people overnight
Three people lost their lives on Irish roads overnight.
A man in his forties has died after he was struck in a fatal hit and run incident in the early hours of the morning.
The man, aged in his late forties, was struck by a vehicle on North Street in Swords, Dublin.
The incident occurred at approximately 3.10am this morning.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and removed to Connolly Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The vehicle involved failed to remain at the scene.
Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are currently examining the scene and local traffic diversions are in place.
Investigating Gardaí are appealing for information and in particular anyone who was in the vicinity of North St. Swords between 3am and 3.15am this morning to contact them.
Meanwhile, a man in his thirties and a woman in her forties were killed when the car which in they were travelling in left the road and struck a ditch just after midnight last night.
The incident occurred at Ballinahina, Whites Cross, Cork at approximately 12.30am.
The pair were pronounced dead at the scene.
Their bodies have since been removed to Cork University Hospital where post-mortem examinations will be carried out.
The road remains closed to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local traffic diversions are in place.
Gardai in Mayfield, Cork are appealing for witnesses following the fatal collision.
