Three held as rural burglary plan foiled

UNDERCOVER gardai foiled two burglars who targeted the rural home of an elderly couple.

A covert garda operation in Clare began following a spate of burglaries from the homes of vulnerable pensioners.

It resulted in the arrest of three suspects on Wednesday night – including two men en route to another break-in.

Following weeks of surveillance, investigating officers were satisfied that the gang was about to strike at another home in west Clare following burglaries in the Inagh, Kilmihil, Moyasta and Kilmaley areas in recent months.

Screwdrivers, pepper-spray, a claw hammer, a lump hammer, pliers, a knife and a torch were also recovered from their vehicle.

The three suspects were brought to Ennis and Kilrush garda stations where investigations are continuing.
