Three gardai injured after car fails to stop at checkpoint and later rams squad car Newsdesk Newsdesk

Three gardai were injured when a car failed to stop for gardai at a checkpoint in Carlow last night. and three men were subsequently arrested following an incident in Carlow overnight.

The incident started shortly before midnight when the car passed the checkpoint on the N80 in Clonegal without stopping.

The vehicle was followed by a number of Garda units across Co Carlow before it rammed a patrol car on St. Joseph's Road in Carlow town a short time later.

The occupants of the car, three men in their 20s, were arrested at the scene.

Three officers injured during the incident were taken from the scene for treatment at St. Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny. They were later discharged.

Two Garda patrol cars were damaged during the course of the incident.

A garda spokesman said a small amount of cocaine has been recovered by investigating officers and a technical examination of the scene is underway.

The three men were later charged in connection with the incident.

They will appear before Kilkenny District Court at 1030am tomorrow morning.
