TWO men and a woman were arrested by Gardai following an armed robbery at a Cork filling station.

The raid occurred shortly after 8pm at Leitrim Street just off Cork city centre and saw two men wearing balaclavas and armed with knives demand cash from staff.

They fled in a waiting car which also contained a young man and woman.

Gardai on routine patrol identified the car and stopped it.

One man fled on foot and managed to evade pursuing officers.

Two men and the young woman were arrested and taken to Gurranabraher and Mayfield Garda Stations for questioning.

They can be held for an initial period of 24 hours.

No one was hurt in the raid though the filling station staff were said to be shocked by the incident.

A small quantity of cash was taken but this was recovered when gardai stopped the vehicle.

Gardai are searching for the fourth individual.
