Thousands of Airtricity customers hit with price hikes reporters

Energy firm Airtricity will increase its prices by up to 21pc between now and October.

The company has blamed the hikes on higher wholesale energy costs including gas.

Gas prices will increase by 21.2pc and electricity by 12.3pc.

Standing charges for electicity, paid by other companies for use of networks, will rise by 12.3pc but those for gas remain unchanged.

Airtricity said the changes would mean an extra €2.53 a week for electricity and €5.45 for those using both gas and electricity.

Last month, the energy regulator gave Bord Gais the green light for a 22pc increase in gas prices from October 1.

Bord Gais has also raised its electricity prices by 12pc.
