Thousands give the red card to new charges at major rally

THOUSANDS of protesters have marched through Dublin city centre calling on the Government to ditch the property tax and plans to introduce water charges.

Groups travelled from all over the country to voice their opposition on Saturday afternoon, making their way up O'Connell Street to Dublin Castle where European finance ministers were meeting.

Gardai estimated that around 3,000 people gathered near the castle entrance on Dame Street. They chanted slogans like "Labour Party get off our backs, we won't pay the property tax".
