A priest has hit out at the return of the controversial 'Shag A Ginger' event at a nightclub in Co Donegal.

The event at Letterkenny’s Pulse Nightclub offers hairdye, condoms and free entry to people with red hair.

It was widely criticised when it was launched two years ago and was changed to 'Kiss A Ginger' last year following public outcry.

Local priest Fr Lorcan O'Searcaigh told Donegal Now that he is "saddened" that the controversial event is due to return tomorrow.

"It’s very unfortunate if this is back.

"They haven’t learned their lesson. I’m not happy about it, no. They said they would end this event.

"Notoriety helps to promote these things, I don’t want to give it any publicity. It shouldn’t go ahead."
