The seven images that reveal Ireland's most stunning rugged islands
The landscape pictures of seven of Ireland’s most accomplished photographers have shown the most stunning rugged islands in Ireland.
A new exhibition called ‘An t-Oileán - The Island by The IrishLight Collective’, showcases spectacular images captured on Dalkey Island (Dublin), Inis Mor (Galway) the Skelligs (Kerry), Bere Island (Cork), Cape Clear (Cork), Achill Island (Mayo) and Ireland’s Eye (Dublin).
The images were captured by Daragh Muldowney, George Karbus, Michael McLaughlin, Norman McCloskey, Peter Cox, Peter Gordon and Rohan Reilly.
Speaking at the exhibition opening, IrishLight founder Peter Gordon said: "As part of IrishLight 2017 it seemed fitting to explore the notion of Irish islands as individuals and bring the work together to see if common themes would emerge. Isolation and space have come to the fore in these images, which is something that defines the very nature of islands and our art as landscape photographers."
Gordon added: "IrishLight aims to bring the best professional Irish-based landscape photographers together with the outstanding international practitioners in the field, while also mobilising the amazing enthusiastic talent that exists in Ireland and abroad.
"Building on last year’s success, the 2017 festival provides a platform for inspiring exhibitions and education, with the Irish landscape once again providing the perfect backdrop.”
