The lucky punter who scooped €66 million is Ireland's eighth Euro Millions winner
The hunt continues to find Ireland’s newest multi-millionaire after one lucky Irish punter scooped €66 million on the Euro Millions.
It is not clear yet where the Irish ticket holder is from as the National Lottery has remained tight-lipped about where Friday’s €66 million ticket was sold.
The jackpot is the third biggest Euro Millions win for Ireland, and is the country’s eighth since the European wide lottery was first launched in 2004.
While huge prize has everyone talking, it still is not quite the level of Limerick’s Dolores McNamara, who picked up some €115 million ten years ago.
The mum-of-six, who had been working as a cleaner at the time, still holds the record for Ireland’s biggest ever lotto win.
The €115 million jackpot rocketed Ms McNamara onto the country’s richest people’s list overnight.
Other recent winners include €94 million ticket in 2013, bought in the Beaumont area of Dublin, and a Dublin syndicate who shared an €86.7 million jackpot in September 2014 after buying a €6 quick pick.
Also included amongst Ireland’s eight Euro Millions is a €29 million ticket brought in Dublin in 2009, a €15 million windfall for a family in Mayo in 2008, a second €15 million ticket brought in 2013 in Carrick-on-Suir in Tipperary, and a €12.8 million win for the South East after a winning ticket was purchased in Ardkeen, Waterford.
