l THE judges say structures for communication with the government have ceased.
• A request for an independent body to set judicial pay was "dismissed out of hand".
• The time superior court judges have to serve in order to obtain a pension has been extended, which they say will have "major consequences" for judicial recruitment in the future.
• The Personal Insolvency Act was enacted without any notice or debate concerning the insolvency judges, who are to be recruited initially solely from the ranks of county registrars. Neither serving judges nor practising lawyers will be eligible to be considered for such appointments until 2014.
• The Seanad's abolition would mean a judge could be removed by majority resolution in the Dail – at present, a resolution of both Houses is required.
