The Happy Pear recalls Basil Pesto over allergen labelling fears
The Happy Pear food company has announced the voluntary recall of some batches of its basil pesto range.
The company said it was taking the step over concerns that a small number of tubs have been incorrectly labelled for egg, a possible concern to those with allergies.
The batches concerned are perfectly safe for customers without an egg allergy.
A spokesperson for the company said: "As a precautionary measure, we are asking customers who have bought this product - and have an allergy or intolerance to egg - not to eat it, and to return it to the store from where it was purchased.
"We have notified the FSAI of our decision to recall this product as a precautionary measure, and customer notices have been issued to stores with all the details. No other Happy Pear products or Lovely Basil Pesto date codes are affected.
"We are treating this matter very seriously and conducting a thorough investigation. We are very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused and will ensure this doesn’t happen again. If any customer would like any further information please contact The Happy Pear.”
The affected batches are 7030, 7033, 7037, 7039 and 7044.
